Dr. Gopal Kamal Explores Genetic and Historical Facts


New Delhi, Prapanch Kanya, a philosophical treatise on the second Millennium, by Dr. Gopal Kamal and his daughter, Ms Ritu Kamal, was launched today at the Second Cultural meet on the Indian Diaspora organized by the Indira Gandhi National centre of Arts (IGNCA).

Prapanch Kanya is a history of the last millennium rewritten simply with segues into Indian Philosophy, network theory, the issue of the Gypsy diaspora, South East Asian history and genetic research. The various aspects of Indian philosophy –Vyakarana, Mimansa, Nyaya, Dharamshastra, Alankar and the sciences are brought together holistically. Highlighting the contributions of the Indic civilization to contemporary science and culture, this book draws parallels between the principles of Indian philosophy and the findings of advanced biology and genetics.

While launching the book Japanese Philosopher and Buddhist , Reverend Ms Katsu Horiuchi the Chief Guest, remarked,” It is only fitting that this book should be released on the occasion of this Historical Diaspora. It not only traces the history of the last millennium, it draws laterally from human growth and thought and proves the coexistence of cultures and communities.”

Dr Gopal Kamal is a senior official with the Government of India. He is also a former scientist with BARC, Trombay, a philosopher and the author of several books and articles on Indian philosophy and science. His works include a monograph entitled “Mathematics in the times of the Sulva Sutra” and the books ‘Teevra Gandhaar” and ‘Main Hi Mathura “.

Ritu Kamal is a bioengineer from Princeton University. She is currently working with HIV / AIDS patients in South Africa. She is the author of the prequel to this book, Panch Kanya, which was nominated for the International Dublin Literary Award, 2002

About the Director

Born in 1963 in Kerala. He has been also crated with theatre from late Seventrics. He took his diploma in Theatre Direction from National School of Drama, New Delhi in 1991. he also worked with Theater des cergy – Pentose, France

He directed many plays in various languages including French. The play junction, written by him has won three awards from Sangeet Natak Academy of Kerala in 2000 and was also published in Hindi.
